Leadership training for NHS managers
NHS managers lead teams under constant pressure, often with little time for their own development. Our leadership training gives ward managers, team leads and clinical leads practical tools for team conversations, change and wellbeing, delivered around rotas.
Common challenges Staffing gaps: Rotas, vacancies and agency cover make it hard to build a steady team. From clinician to manager: Many managers step up from clinical roles with little preparation for leading people. Constant change: New systems, pathways and restructures arrive while services keep running. Speaking up: Staff may hesitate to raise concerns, especially across professional hierarchies.
What the training covers Sessions focus on the conversations NHS managers have every week: one-to-ones, feedback, team huddles, conflict and support for staff after difficult shifts. We use examples from health settings and link the work to frameworks your organisation already uses, such as the NHS People Promise and Freedom to Speak Up.
Formats Half-day modules that fit around shifts Cohort programmes for new ward and team managers Action learning sets for experienced managers Team sessions with a whole department
Working with trusts and providers We work with NHS trusts, GP practices, independent healthcare providers and health charities. Programmes are designed with your organisational development or learning team, and delivered in-house or online.
Do you only work with NHS trusts? No. We also work with GP practices, private providers and charities in health and care.
Can sessions run online? Yes. Many managers join short online modules between shifts, with some sessions in person.
Does the training link to our values? Yes. We build your organisation's values and frameworks into the examples and exercises.
Is it suitable for clinical leads? Yes. Clinical leads and senior nurses often join, as they lead teams as well as deliver care.
